Jeri Newberry, an art teacher at Sheridan Elementary School, recently was invited to be a guest facilitator at the Arkansas Art Educators Fall Conference.

Newberry presented a session on using a Sub Tub in the art room. The Sub Tub (pictured below) provides a variety of organized activities that helps substitute teachers feel more comfortable leading a lesson in art--which can be very intimidating for novice substitutes. The teachers who attended the session were pleased with the sample art lessons that Newberry shared.

The annual Arkansas Art Educators Fall Conference provides quality staff development relevant to current issues in art education, meaningful workshops aligned with state standards, contemporary research information, and wide-ranging networking opportunities. Teachers who attend the conferences learn about new techniques and materials that can be used in the art room.

Newberry said, "The new ideas from other teachers and speakers will influence the changes I will make to my classroom and curriculum. These changes are made with my students creativity and learning in mind, because they are the artists in the room. I am simply there to guide and support them."
