Please help us congratulate Mandy Porter as the Sheridan School District’s Secondary Teacher of the Year! Porter is a dedicated, determined and effective educator who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. She has been an admired science teacher at our district for close to 12 years. According to her principal, Mr. Rasnick, her leadership skills, knowledge of student learning pathways, and expertise in science education make her a keystone for the faculty at Sheridan Middle School.
As a process champion in our district’s Capturing Kids’ Hearts initiative, she is a firm believer that, “if you have a child’s heart, you have their mind.” She creates a classroom environment that is safe, non-judgemental, encouraging and cooperative. She says that building relationships with, and between, students focused on genuine mutual care and respect open up opportunities for true growth. She is not just a science teacher, she is an educator addressing the needs of the whole child to ensure that all her students move forward.
