Dear SSD Families:

We are aware of the growing concern about the coronavirus since the announcement yesterday of Arkansas’ first presumptive case of the novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19. This is an emerging situation, and we are doing everything we can to ensure the health and safety of our students. We are working closely with the Arkansas Department of Health and will follow their recommendations.

It’s important to note that Governor Hutchinson included in his official statement regarding the virus yesterday that “the Secretary of Health, in consultation with the Secretary of Education, shall have sole authority to close public school campuses throughout the state for reasons related to the COVID-19.” Therefore, the decision to cancel classes due to this emergency will be made at the state government level, not by local school districts.

Over the coming days, our campuses will be taking precautionary measures to prevent the potential spread of the coronavirus. We are trying to be proactive. If we get any confirmed cases, we will collaborate with the health department to communicate this information with the public.

If you suspect someone in your household has come in contact with the virus, please contact your school nurse.

Sincerely,

SSD Communications
