The Sheridan School District has named Tyler Turner as its next athletic director and Charlie Kinser as coordinator of athletics. The announcement followed approval by Sheridan’s Board of Education at its regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 17.

Turner was hired in April as the new head football coach for the Yellowjackets. Kinser has been with the district since 2014 and has served as the athletics facilities manager since Yellowjacket Arena opened in 2019. Both individuals will retain their current job responsibilities. Turner will receive a stipend for his additional duties, while Kinser’s annual contract will reflect his increased responsibilities.

As a football coach, Turner has compiled a 75-20 overall record, averaging 10.7 wins per years. At Olive Branch (Miss.), Turner served as both athletic director overseeing all Olive Branch school athletics and as head high school football coach. As coach, he inherited a team with a 14-game losing streak and orchestrated one of the biggest turnarounds in the history of Mississippi high school football. In his first year at Olive Branch, his team went 12-2 and was ranked No. 3 in the state.

In addition to his duties as facilities manager for the YJNation, Kinser has also served as a coach, classroom teacher for audio visual and marketing curriculum, and oversees the YJNation Store retail activities.

“We are excited to have both Tyler Turner and Charlie Kinser in positions of leadership for the Sheridan athletics program,” said Dr. Karla Neathery, superintendent of the Sheridan School District. “In just a short time, Coach Turner has already proven he has a dynamic personality with outstanding leadership, motivational and organizational skills. And certainly, his years of high school athletic director experience will serve our district well. Additionally, Coach Kinser brings a unique skill set to this new coordinator’s position, combining his years of experience in athletics with an innovative marketing background and a detail-oriented management style. Both Coach Turner and Coach Kinser are high-energy and have tremendous work-ethic, and I believe the future of Sheridan athletics is in great hands.”
