Sheridan Students Named AP Scholars for Recent Exam Scores

During May 2020, students at Sheridan High School persevered through a unique AP testing season to earn a noteworthy 189 qualifying scores on their AP  exams.  Each qualifying score of 3, 4, or 5 equates to earned college credit, tuition savings, and proof of a student’s ability to handle college-level coursework.  In the upcoming school year, SHS will expand its offerings to a total of 19 AP courses, making it one of the  local leaders in the number of AP courses available. 

This week, the College Board announced the 2020 AP Scholar recipients for Sheridan High School based on performance on this year’s AP exams.  A total of 52 AP Scholar Awards at all levels have been granted to students at Sheridan High School. 

Kaleigh Coker earned the National AP Scholar award, the highest level of recognition given by the College Board. This award is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken during a student’s high school career, as well as score a  4 or higher on at least eight exams.  Kaleigh plans to attend Hendrix College this fall as a prospective biochemistry and molecular biology major.   When asked about her experience in SHS AP courses, Kaleigh said, “Without the enjoyable challenge of Sheridan's AP courses, my high school experience would not have been nearly as fulfilling and insightful. My teachers are the reason I'm on the path to my passion.”

Ten SHS students qualified for AP Scholar with Distinction awards with an average score of 3.88, an increase from previous years in both number of qualifying students and overall average score. To receive this recognition, a student must receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken during his/her high school career, as well as score 3 or higher on at least five exams. This year’s AP Scholars with Distinction are Alaina Allen, Jayson Burroughs, Kaleigh Coker, Lauren Godwin, Ashleigh Griffin, Erin Kaucher, Jacob Olson, Reid Roark, Mya Souvanna, and Kathryn Tubbs. 

Six SHS students were awarded AP Scholar with Honors awards for receiving an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken during their high school careers, as well as scoring 3 or higher on at least four exams.  This year’s AP Scholars with Honor are Zachary Adams, Braci Bowlin, Carson Norwood, Jordan Smith, Jackson Sorey, and Jaden Willis. 

Thirty-five SHS students earned the AP Scholar award, which is awarded to students who received scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams taken during their high school careers.  These students are Seth Alexander, Ranelle Allen, Zoie Autrey, Jenna Barnes, Aubrianna Burns, Louis Cacciatori, Macie Carter, Lawson Collins, Danielle Crutchfield, Benjamin Cunningham, Clark Denney, Olivia Galyean, Dalton Grissom, Alana Hedden, Cassidy Henry, Callie Holiman, Kaylee Johnson, McKenzie Lem, Magan McClain, Kylie McElroy, Haydn McGarrah, Gavin Michau, Emma Mitchell, Megan Monk, Lara Parker, Shelby Rainbolt, Harrison Robinette, Eryn Rowell, Ashleigh Shaw, Sarah Silliman,  Chloe Smith, Tru Spann, Carly Strong, Grace Vance,  and Eldon Williams.
