The Sheridan School District has announced that Jordan Phillips will serve as the new head Lady Yellowjacket basketball coach. The Sheridan School Board approved his promotion during its regular monthly meeting Monday night. He replaces Andy Brakebill, who recently announced his resignation effective at the end of the school year.

Phillips has been employed with the district since 2016 and brings a strong background in coaching and student leadership. He currently serves as an assistant girls basketball coach, a role he held from 2016 to 2018 and again from 2023 to the present. From 2018 to 2023, he was the head junior high girls basketball coach. He also served as an assistant softball coach from 2016 to 2024. In addition to his coaching duties, Phillips teaches history at Sheridan High School and sponsors the National Honor Society.

During his time as an assistant high school basketball coach, the Lady Yellowjackets reached the state championship game in 2017 and advanced to the quarterfinals in 2018 and 2023, along with multiple other state tournament appearances. As head junior high coach, Phillips led Sheridan to conference championships in 2020 and 2022. While serving as an assistant softball coach, he was part of multiple state championship teams, including most recently in 2024.

“Jordan Phillips is a tremendous role model to our students,” said Sheridan athletic director Rick Treadway. “Jordan is very well respected by his peers and players. He will be a huge asset as he leads our girls basketball program!”

Phillips holds a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in history from the University of Central Arkansas and a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Coaching from Southern Arkansas University. He and his wife, Sarah, have two sons.
