Representatives from the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, the Arkansas Department of Agriculture, No Kid Hungry, community leaders, and other partners visited East End Middle School on Monday, June 29 to highlight the importance of summer meals for children.
"Summer may be a break from school, but it's not a break from serving our students," said Sheridan Superintendent Chad Pitts. "Through the dedication of our Child Nutrition team, local churches, volunteers, and community partners, we're able to provide nutritious meals to children throughout the summer. We're grateful for everyone who helps make this program possible. We believe no child should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from -- it's simply the right thing to do."
According to Sheridan Child Nutrition Director Amanda Garner, approximately 22% of Sheridan School District students are currently receiving summer meals through the program and that number continues to increase.
