The Sheridan School Board voted unanimously Monday night to hire Dr. Blaine Alexander as principal at Sheridan High School for the upcoming 2022-23 school year. Alexander is currently serving as interim principal of East End Middle School.
The board also selected Heather Williams to replace Alexander at EEM. Williams will join the Sheridan School District beginning July 1. She will complete the current school year as principal of Perritt Primary School in the Arkadelphia School District.
At the regular March school board meeting, Chad Pitts of Benton was chosen by the board to fill an assistant superintendent position that had been vacant during the 2021-22 school year. Pitts currently serves as principal of Benton Junior High School and will begin his new position July 1.
Before joining the Sheridan School District, Alexander had served as a principal in both the Cabot School District and Pulaski County Special School District. He had been working since 2009 with the Arkansas Leadership Academy where he was responsible for collaborating with school districts across the state to develop strategic plans for continual district and campus level improvement. Alexander obtained his Master of Education degree from Harding University and Doctor of Education from the University of Arkansas. Alexander has achieved Master Principal designation, having graduated from the Arkansas Leadership Academy's master principal program.
In 2021, Williams was named National Outstanding Assistant Principal by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. She is pursuing her Doctor of Education degree in the K12 Educational Leadership program at Baylor University. Williams holds an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Central Arkansas, a Master of Education degree in Reading from UA-Little Rock, and a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood from Harding University.
Pitts has been serving as principal at Benton Junior High since 2018. He began his career at Benton where he coached football, basketball and golf while teaching elementary physical education. In 2013, he left Benton to become the head boys basketball coach at Glen Rose High School. After another coaching stint at Bauxite, he again joined the Benton School District in 2016 as an assistant principal at Benton Junior High. He has served as principal the past four years. Pitts earned his Bachelor’s degree from UA-Little Rock and a Master’s degree from Arkansas State University. Pitts has also completed his Educational Specialist degree in Education Leadership in Superintendency from Arkansas State University.
