EEI's 3rd grade students celebrated literacy day yesterday which included a trip to the Saline County Library East End Branch and several activities at our school. Thank you to all the helping hands who made this day possible - Kristi Meyer, Dani Hardy, Mrs. Elledge, Mrs. Futch, and Mrs. Richardson. Also, a huge shout out to our library for partnering with our school to make reading fun and provide summer activities for families to enjoy!

Deputy Fashank hosted a contest for students to write an essay describing what they learned about staying safe at school this year. Winners received a pizza party with police during their assigned lunch time. Thank you to all the officers who came out to spend time with our kids!

EEI celebrated students' effort on their ATLAS assessments this year through a raffle drawing for prizes. Prizes were purchased through Student Council fundraisers this year as well as community donations collected by our PTO. A huge shout out to our community donors - Malvern National Bank, Simmons Bank, Pinnacle Gymnastics, and Buffie Howard / Truman Ball Real Estate. Thank you for making this possible for our students!

EEI hosted Career Day last week. Students took a career interest survey during their counseling class last month, were grouped by their career interests, and were able to hear from community volunteers about the education/training required for their job as well as a daily overview of what their job entails. We want to thank all volunteers for taking time off to spend with our students to create a memorable experience.

EEI welcomed EEE's second graders for a tour of the building, hosted by some of our 5th grade students. Students had an opportunity to walk through the building, meet the third grade teachers, and see the playground (which of course is their favorite part)! We're excited to have these students join the EEI family next year!

We're a little late, but we wanted to give a huge shout out to EEI's PTO and several community partners who made Teacher Appreciation week special for our staff. Thank you to our PTO, East Union MBC, Chartwells, Grace Church, Brooks Surveying, and People's Bank! We have a fantastic staff, so thank you for making their week special.

May is an even busier month than April at East End Intermediate. A reminder that we are a nut-free campus. We are starting to see a lot of snacks and lunch items that contain nuts. Please take a look at all of our end-of-the-year activities. We will be changing up our Fun in the Sun this year, so check out those changes in the newsletter: https://secure.smore.com/n/ps7t5

East End Intermediate had our last Monthly Morning Meeting on Monday morning. We recognized students, classes, and staff for following the Yellowjacket Way and for demonstrating the CKH Word of the Month - perseverance. In addition, we also had 67 students with perfect attendance (3rd: 25, 4th: 19, & 5th: 23).
As we finish our last month of school, our CKH focus will be integrity.

Last Friday, 5th graders were wished well on their future academic journey to middle school as we began a new tradition for EEI, our rock ceremony. Students decorated their rocks previously in art class, then planted them in our flower bed to leave a little piece behind as they gear up to transition to middle school. After the ceremony, students loaded buses and traveled to EEM to take a tour of the building and learn about all the opportunities that middle school provides.
EEM will also be hosting a Parent Night for incoming 6th graders on Thursday, May 6th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. We hope families can attend and enjoy the opportunity to meet the administration, faculty and staff at EEM.

East End Intermediate's 5th-grade students took a field trip last week to Pinnacle Mountain. This year in science class, students have been learning about ecosystems. They were able to apply and extend their knowledge during the trip.

East End Intermediate geared up for testing last week with a pep rally! We reviewed the importance of the test, the criteria for earning raffle tickets for prizes, and a few test-taking strategies. Concluding the pep rally, teachers dressed up in inflatable costumes and raced. Congratulations to our track star, Ms. Mosqueda!
Friday after school, teachers and staff decorated the hall with all the affirmations sent in by families. On Monday morning, students walked the halls reading all the positive messages to pep them up before testing. We had two successful days of testing this week, and we look forward to wrapping up testing next Monday and Tuesday. Thank you for the support and for partnering with us in your child's education!

Last night was a big night for 5th graders at East End Intermediate! Students put on a music performance for their families, led by our music teacher, Ms. Burris. Following the performance was the Michelangelo Art Gallery, put together by our art teacher, Mrs. Raney. Ms. Walters showcased our 5th-grade GT students' businesses and prototypes. The finale of the night was the Live Wax Museum. Students have been working on their wax museum project for months in Mrs. Whitehead's class during Foundational Fridays as an extension research project. Our students and staff have worked hard for the past several months to make this night a success. Thank you to all the families that came out to support our students!

Guest speaker, Mrs. McConkie, taught art appreciation skills and economics to Mrs. Hardin's class by analyzing "La Feria en Reynosa". They learned how to create their own paper art, what goods and services are available at a Mexican street fair, and how to do several dances. Soaking in some fun culture!

The month of April is the month of the military child. On Friday, April 11th, EEI celebrated our children of active military parents with purple ice cream donated by Purple Cow. Thank you to PTO and Purple Cow for making this happen!

EEI successfully completed a community-wide surprise Code Adam Drill. Our Crisis Team has spent the past year training, planning, and preparing students and staff in how to respond in case of a medical emergency. The purpose of today's drill was to complete our certification with Arkansas Children's Hospital to be a heart safe school.
