East End Intermediate's Chess teams participated in the ARESC Fall Chess Tournaments last week. The 5th-grade team won 3rd place. Wyatt Ritchie tied for 2nd overall. Avlyn Jaggars, Luzzeli Cabrera, and Mason Quinn tied for 4th overall. Congratulations, students, and a huge thank you to Mrs. Seaton (EEI Chess Sponsor) and Mr. Jaggars (a parent volunteer) for the countless hours teaching and practicing with students. Last week at East End Intermediate, the 4th graders became composers in music class with Miss Burris! They worked together to write out a song and then were able to play it on pumpkins using a MakeyMakey board!

At East End Intermediate, fourth-grade math detectives celebrated Halloween by finding the Halloween Angle Culprit from the town of Mathington. Students practiced their protractor skills by measuring and identifying different angles. With careful consideration and mathematical precision, they identified the character that was different because of their diligent angle measurements.

Mrs. Jones’s 5th-grade students at East End Intermediate put their math skills to work in a fun, hands-on way! Using Play-Doh, students designed and built models of their ideal park. They then applied their knowledge of fractions to calculate the area of each labeled section.

Mrs. Braden’s 3rd-grade class is tackling area with real-world problem-solving. Mrs. Potter’s 4th graders are diving deep into comparing fractions with unlike denominators — and doing it with confidence! Miss Mosqueda’s 5th-grade mathematicians are mastering multiplying and dividing fractions.

Last Tuesday East End Intermediate had Monthly Morning Meeting. We recognized all students who received a Positive Office Referral and celebrated all Students and Classes of the Month who were nominated for starting the year off strong. Congratulations to all who received awards and recognition!
The CKH Word of the Month for September is empathy. Students will be doing character lessons in counseling this month learning what empathy is, how to be empathetic towards others, and how it will help them in growing to be a stronger leader.
