The Yellowjacket boys closed out their home schedule with a 69-42 victory Tuesday over Texarkana at Yellowjacket Arena. Senior Hank Singley, getting the start on Senior Night, made the most of it, racking up 13 points in the first quarter and 20 in the game to lead the way. Senior Addison Reynolds hit his first-ever 3-pointer in a conference game with 1:38 left, just before Coach Joe Scott took all the seniors out of the game to applause. All four Sheridan seniors played and scored. The Jackets are 14-14 overall and 3-12 in 5A-South play. They will play their season finale tomorrow (Thursday) in a make-up game at Texarkana. #YJNation




Congratulations to the Sheridan Lady Jackets for their 59-36 Senior Night win over Texarkana last night. Sophomore Lilly Reid led the Lady Jackets with 23 points, while senior Kayden Porter had 14, and senior Emma Goodman had 13. All Sheridan seniors played and scored. Sheridan (20-8 overall, 11-4 in conference) plays a make-up game tomorrow at Texarkana. The Lady Jackets will be the No. 4 seed in the state tournament next week, playing a first-round game Tuesday against Greenwood. The game will be at Searcy High School and begin at 4 p.m.

National Guard recruiters, Braden King and Caleb Hobson, collaborated with Mrs. Rich’s food production classes this week. The classes were tasked to make MREs (meals ready to eat) gourmet like. The students had about 30 minutes to complete their meals. The recruiters and Mrs. Rich judged the plates on presentation and taste. The students did amazing and want to thank the National Guard for this opportunity.

Students in the JAG program at Sheridan High School participated in mock interviews where they practiced answering interview questions with local employers. Thank you to the community partners who helped interview the students and gave them real-world experience and feedback: RoofConnect - Angie Roberts, Brandi Phillips and Nathan Ware; FirstTrust Home Loans - Renee Harris and Britnie Carlise; and People's Bank - Jessica Brown.



United States Senator Tom Cotton visited with the entire eighth-grade class at Sheridan Middle School today. Senator Cotton was greeted by members of the SMS Student Council and members of administration and school board. The SMS band played as students filled the cafeteria. Senator Cotton spoke to the students about government, the importance of being engaged in your community and voting, and offered a few "life tips" or advice. He then opened the program for questions and stayed afterward for all who wanted their photo made with the Senator to do so. Thank you to Senator Cotton for taking time from your day for the visit! The Yellowjacket boys fought hard, but eventually lost 63-53 to the Benton Panthers Friday night. Benton is currently ranked No. 1 in class 5A by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Gutsy game, Jackets!
Congratulations to the Sheridan Lady Jackets for their 58-47 win over Benton Friday, sweeping both games with the Lady Panthers this year!
The Sheridan High School JROTC competed in the Fort Smith Northside Rifle, Raiders and Drill competition. There were 20 schools that participated coming from Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. The Drill Team took 2nd overall in the Armed Division and 3rd overall in the Unarmed Division. The Rifle Team finished in 7th place in the first competition the program has competed with rifles in 7 years. All teams worked hard and should be proud of their performance.

This week two Sheridan High School seniors, Jackson Appleget and Peyton Raines, attended the All-State Music Conference in Hot Springs. Thousands of students around the state competed at the region level and only the top scoring students qualified to audition for the top choirs and bands. Jackson and Peyton spent two days in intensive rehearsals and performed impressive concerts on Saturday. We are very proud of these students for their hard work, dedication, musicianship, and personal success!

East End Middle School and Sheridan Middle School will each host a Parent Night for all current eighth-grade students to share information about ninth-grade courses and high school graduation requirements.
The EEM event will take place in the EEM Cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. on February 22. The SMS event will be held in the SMS Cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. on February 27.
