The SHS Quiz Bowl Team, coached by Olivia Lewis, competed in the Fall Regional Quiz Bowl Tournament held at Arkansas River Education Service Co-Op yesterday. Sheridan Team A placed second, and Sheridan Team B placed fourth overall. Congratulations to this group for their academic success and for bringing home two trophies!
There are growing student meal negative account balances in the Sheridan School District. The District welcomes people who wish to donate to help eliminate those meal debts for students. The public is invited to attend a Christmas Choir Concert on Thursday, Dec. 7 featuring choirs from East End Middle School, Sheridan Middle School and Sheridan High School. The event will be at the SHS McKenzie Hall Auditorium. Doors open at 5:30, and the performance begins at 6 p.m.

Due to unexpected circumstances, Sheridan High School baseball tryouts will begin Tuesday, Nov. 28, instead of today.

Boys and girls soccer tryouts will be after school Nov. 27-30 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Yellowjacket Stadium. Those interested in trying out will need to dress weather appropriately, and have cleats, shin guards, and athletic shoes for all days of the tryout. Additionally, participants should bring their own water. For more information, please contact Coach Ayers.

Track tryouts for the upcoming 2024 track season will begin on Dec. 4-8. Seventh and eighth grade will be Dec. 4-5. Grades 9-12 will be Dec. 6-7. If you are in 9th-12th grade and have the offseason track period, we will start during the 7th period. All others not in the 7th-period off-season track will begin after school. Tryouts should be over between 4:30 and 5:00 each day -- it could end earlier for those in the 7th-period track.
Track clothes are a must. No jeans allowed. Warm-ups or shorts and an appropriate top must be worn. Track spikes are optional. You must have tennis shoes if you do not wear spikes.
There will be an East End shuttle bus after school each day and a shuttle after each day of tryouts.

The Sheridan JROTC led a flag retirement ceremony yesterday at the site of the B-17 Memorial off HWY 35 north of Sheridan. The SHS Jazz Band also performed during the solemn ceremony.
2024 Sheridan Yellowjacket baseball tryouts will be Nov. 27 – Dec. 1 from 3:45 – 5 p.m. at the high school baseball field. (You must attend every day unless cleared by Coach Moore.) Bring glove and cleats. Wear long sleeves, a cap and baseball pants or sweat pants. (No shorts or short sleeve shirts.)
Tryouts for basketball players and wrestlers will be held after your season is completed. Please let Coach Moore know that you are going to try out by November 30.
If you need a ride to the baseball field, you can catch the shuttle bus in the Yellowjacket Arena parking lot immediately after school. (The bus will be over by the old bus shop.) If you need a ride to East End after practice, we will get you back to the school each day in time to catch the East End shuttle bus. No bus on Friday, so make arrangements for
a ride to pick you up at the baseball field at 5 p.m. on Friday. For more information contact Coach Moore at 870-917-5653.

Students in the Sheridan High School JAG program visited the State Capitol on Monday. They received a tour of the building and met with Rep. Julie Mayberry who discussed her role as a representative. They also had an opportunity to meet State Auditor Dennis Milligan and hold stacks of cash from the Capitol vault. The group's sponsor is Abana Nevens.

HOSA officers attended the annual Fall Leadership Conference at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro Tuesday, Nov 7. They participated in games and got to tour the NYIT Medical School of Osteopathic Medicine.
The SHS Chess Club placed second in the Fall Regional Chess Tournament at ARESC in Pine Bluff today. Congratulations to the team and their sponsor, Mr. Ray Selph! #YJNation #BeADifferenceMaker

The Sheridan cheer program held its Invitational Competition on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Yellowjacket Arena.
SHS Varsity won first place and was awarded Judges' Choice for best tumbling. Kaydence Ratcliff also placed third in tumbling.
The Yellowjacket middle school squad received first in their division and also received the Judges' Choice award for best tumbling. Tinley Burris received first in the junior high tumble off and second in the junior high jump-off. Additionally, Chanley Paty also received third in junior high tumble-off.

The Nest Afterschool and Grant County Fall Carnival were excited to give back for Red Ribbon Week to Sheridan Middle School and East End Middle School. They also had the opportunity to distribute some goodies to the elementary, intermediate, and middle schools from the Region 12 PFS Rise Above Alcohol & Drugs (RAAD) Campaign!
