
Pre-K and Kindergarten registration for the 2023-24 school year is now underway at the Sheridan School District. For Kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2023. For pre-K, a child must be 4 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2023. Space is limited for pre-K positions at both Sheridan Elementary and East End Elementary, and will be filled on a first-come, first-qualified basis. The pre-K classes are funded through Arkansas Better Chance for School Success and have specific guidelines as to which students qualify for services. This program serves 4-year-old children from families with gross income not exceeding 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. Congratulations to Yellowjacket senior Brooklyn Rowe for scoring her 1,000 career point in a second-round state playoff game on Friday against West Memphis. Brooklyn is also in the running for the Scorebook Live Player of the Week after scoring 39 points in the first round against Little Rock Christian, including eight 3-pointers, and 14 against West Memphis. A shuttle from East End Middle School will not be provided for the upcoming cheer clinic scheduled for March 13-16 at Sheridan High School. Parents will need to make arrangements to get their cheerleaders to SHS by 4:00 p.m. on the days they are attending the clinic. There will be a shuttle provided at 5:30 p.m. at the arena to take students back to East End.

Congratulations to Lainey Ray and Kelli Taylor who won the state championship in the Health Education category at the HOSA-Future Health Professional state conference today in Hot Springs. Sheridan High School took 13 students to the conference. Also advancing to Round 2 in the Forensic Science category was the SHS team of Ainsley Kendall and Kaitlyn Horton.



Sheridan High School senior Brady Ingram was selected as one of just eight recipients of the 2023 #License2Howl scholarship from Arkansas State University. Ingram received the award in a surprise announcement in Yellowjacket Arena in front of his family and friends along with school district administrators and coaches. Tara Thomason, director of annual giving with Arkansas State, presented the award. This scholarship is made possible by Arkansas State University alumni and supporters who have purchased the #AState license plate and show their #PackPride. Each student will receive the $5,000 annual renewable scholarship beginning in the fall of 2023. Congratulations, Brady!

East End Intermediate School third-graders learned from Ms. Laura about the arachnids found in the regions of Arkansas.


On Wednesday, the Sheridan High School Chamber Choir received superior ratings in both performance and in sight-reading, giving them a regional Division 1 award. We’re very proud of the hard work, dedication, consistency, and musicianship of these students.


The senior high track meet scheduled for today at Harding University has been canceled due to forecasts of inclement weather. Additionally, the FCA Classic baseball games at Sheridan scheduled for today (March 1) and tomorrow (March 2) have been canceled.

The senior high track meet originally scheduled for Thursday, March 2, at Harding University has been moved to Wednesday, March 1, due to the forecast of inclement weather on Thursday. Start time is still scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The Yellowjacket boys’ basketball team enters as a #4 seed in the Class 5A state basketball tournament and will play the Maumelle Hornets on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 2:30 p.m. The winner will play again on Thursday, March 2 at 8:30 p.m. against the Siloam Springs-Greene County Tech winner. All games will be at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
The Sheridan girls are a #2 seed and will play Little Rock Christian in the first round. That game will be Thursday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m. The winner will play again Friday, March 3, at 4:00 p.m. against the West Memphis-Mountain Home winner.

SHS students from Mrs. Newberry's, Mrs. Stevens' and Mrs. Tillman’s classes competed yesterday at White Hall High School in the Special Olympics Area 9 basketball skills. They brought home multiple gold, silver and bronze medals! Way to go Jackets!


Staff and students at one SSD campus "mugged" bus drivers this morning for the amazing work that they do everyday for our district. Thank you to all of the bus drivers!






February 22 is National Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Did you know that the Sheridan School District is the seventh-largest geographically in Arkansas, covering over 622 square miles? That means our buses drive more miles than almost any others in the state. Our bus drivers transport 1,800+ students to and from school, running 34 routes twice daily in addition to providing special event transportation. Today, as we do every day, we thank the Sheridan School District bus drivers for all they do! Thank you!

Congratulations to our Yellowjacket wrestlers who placed at the regional competition Saturday. The following athletes have qualified to participate in the state competition: Josh Handloser, champion 175 lbs.; Thomas Guy, runner-up 113 lbs.; Peyton West, 4th place 126 lbs.; Joe Cotton, runner-up 144 lbs.; and Shayne Dobson, 4th place 150 lbs.

The Lady Yellowjackets were big winners last night, defeating the White Hall Lady Bulldogs 64-35 at home. Brooklyn Rowe scored 20, Kayden Porter had 15, Emma Goodman scored 12, and Lilly Reid finished with 9. Sheridan is currently in second place in the 5A-South conference.
