Parents, here’s a quick video on how to get started with the Canvas Parent app on your phone: https://youtu.be/kEAyb-7rlBk.
You will first need to create a Parent Observer account. If you haven’t done this already, you can refer to the video available here: https://youtu.be/o9_8Pcu5QGg. The Observer account lets you track your child’s progress and receive notifications from your teacher in Canvas.
Whether you use the app or the website version of Canvas, setting up an Observer account will be helpful to parents of both virtual and onsite students.

SSD Families: As of today, Sept. 3, 2020, the Sheridan School District will provide free school breakfast and lunch meals for all enrolled virtual and onsite students. The funding for the meals will be provided by the USDA. This free school meal program will be effective until Dec. 31, 2020.

SSD Families: We are so happy to have our kids back at school! They are AMAZING! We want you to know that your children are making us proud, and they seem to be adjusting well to the new guidelines. Thank you for all you are doing at home to support them.
REMINDERS
(Onsite and Virtual) If you haven't already, guardians of returning students should update their child's information in PowerSchool. This will help ensure we have updated phone numbers, home addresses, etc. You should have received a letter with a Snap code in the mail over the summer. The snap code is needed to log in. The link to PowerSchool is https://bit.ly/2QnsPXZ.
(Onsite) To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our schools, we can only allow visitors for official school business. Unfortunately, parents will not be able to come have lunch with their kids this year. We also cannot allow parents to bring in outside food at lunchtime.
(Onsite) Doors open at 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop off your students before that time. Under the current health guidelines, we cannot have students congregate in the cafeteria before school like we've done in the past.
(Onsite and Virtual) Please complete and return pages 165 - 173 of the Student Handbook. These went home with onsite students this week. Virtual families received a handbook at Chromebook pick up.
Thanks again for all you do. We are going to have a great school year if we all work together to #MakeItCount!

SSD Families: We have been closely monitoring the weather forecast and the potential impact of Hurricane Laura in Arkansas. According to the update from the Office of Emergency Management this morning, the estimated time for arrival of the storms is earlier in the afternoon than expected. Due to the possibility of this inclement weather, all SSD campuses will dismiss early today, Aug. 27. Bus riders will dismiss at 12:50 p.m. and car riders will dismiss at 1:00 p.m. Pre-K will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. All extracurricular activities for this afternoon are cancelled.
Should we need to cancel onsite learning tomorrow due to flooding or power outages, we will send out a text message to families and post the information to our website and social media platforms as soon as a decision is made.
Today, K-2 teachers will send home paper assignments with students for tomorrow in the event we need to pivot to remote learning. Students in grades 3 - 12 will receive assignments in their Canvas accounts. If you have a power outage or you have any trouble accessing the assignments in Canvas, your teacher will provide the assistance when students return to school.

SSD Virtual Families:
We are still experiencing technical difficulties with our new Canvas Learning Management System. We sincerely apologize for this rough start to your child’s virtual learning experience. This is not consistent with our standards. Some students are having difficulty logging in and some students are noticing missing or wrong courses in their Canvas accounts. Our IT and curriculum departments are working with Canvas and our student database provider to resolve these issues. While not every student is experiencing these same difficulties, we wanted to send this message out to all of our families in case there are others who have had similar issues.
Please know that we are working hard to make sure your child has a positive experience with virtual learning. We are committed to providing your child with a rigorous education as well as any other support services they need. If your child has not been able to complete the work on Canvas today or yesterday, there is no need to worry about him/her being counted absent. Also, there is no need to worry about him/her falling behind. Our teachers are aware of this situation and will be flexible with attendance and allowing your child ample time to catch up on school work.
Again, we apologize for this inconvenience and the stress this may have caused. We thank you for your patience as we work through the kinks of our new learning management system. We will update you once we receive more information from Canvas.

It was awesome to see our students back at school! We have missed them so much! #MakeItCount

Sheridan School District is pleased to announce the theme for the 2020-21 school year: Make It Count!
This past year has served as a great reminder that we should make the most out of each day. We must take every opportunity to teach and learn, and we shouldn't take our time for granted. Although COVID-19 has brought about some changes in school and everyday life that we aren't necessarily thrilled with, let's focus on the positive and find joy in whatever we do.
Our faculty and staff are grateful for the time we have with our students, and we see each day as another opportunity to make a positive impact on our students' lives!
Please help us show support for our students as they begin the school year by sharing your words of encouragement on your social media pages! Use the hashtag #MakeItCount!

The governor officially announced on August 14 that football and volleyball will be able to continue their schedule of competition. However, we will need to meet the Arkansas Department of Health guidelines for large venue events. This means we will have limited seating available for fans at our facilities. No season passes will be sold this year and no AAA passes will be accepted.
For football, each participating student (football, cheer, dance, band) will have the opportunity to purchase two tickets each. Tickets may be purchased at the high school office during the week of the game. No tickets will be sold at the gate. Only pre-sold tickets will be accepted. Football games will be live streamed. Each week you will find the link to the live stream on the Sheridan Athletics Web page.
For volleyball, tickets will be sold at the gate until capacity is reached. There will be limited seats available in the Yellowjacket Arena.
Information for purchasing tickets to AWAY games is not available at this time.
ADH Guidelines for Face Coverings at Athletics Events:
All attendees are required to wear face coverings except for children under 10 years of age. Due to increased production of respiratory droplets during yelling and cheering, face coverings should remain in place even when attendees are seated and maintaining required physical distancing. Face coverings may be removed to consume food or beverage but should be in place immediately afterwards.
