The Sheridan School District is proud to announce that East End Middle School has been recognized by the University of Arkansas' Office for Education Policy (OEP) for demonstrating exceptional academic growth in the 2024 ATLAS assessment. The school received several prestigious awards, including:
• High Overall Growth (Statewide)
• High Overall Growth (Central Region)
• High ELA Growth (Central Region)
EEM is in the top 20 of middle schools in Arkansas in overall growth and top five middle schools in Central Arkansas for overall growth. The OEP’s annual report, the Outstanding Educational Performance Awards, celebrates schools that show the greatest improvement in student academic performance. The awards are based on growth scores calculated by the Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, which measure how much students improved compared to others with similar prior achievements.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers and staff,” said Dr. Heather Williams, principal at EEM. “It highlights our continuous commitment to improvement, and I’m incredibly proud of our team and the progress we’ve made together.”

Congratulations to the Sheridan High School chess team, which placed second in the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative regional chess tournament. Eli Wolfe also received a second place medal individually. Great job! #YJNation
Congratulations to Tristan Kattavilavong, Jacob Wilson and Clay Smith who qualified for the state wrestling tournament, and to Garrett Guy who earned All-Conference honors!
Sheridan's Sadie and Skylar Sterritt competed in the Arkansas High School State Indoor Championships at the University of Arkansas on February 22.
Skylar, a junior, won the 60m dash for the third year in a row in class 5A, and her time of 7.66 seconds was the fastest of all classifications. She also won the long jump with a jump of 17'11.75", was second in the 200m dash with a time of 25.23, and was second in the high jump with a jump of 5'2".
Sadie, a freshman, finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.09, fourth in the high jump with a jump of 5', and finished eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 27.02.
The Sheridan track team will not attend the state indoor meet in Fayetteville on Saturday as originally planned due to travel conditions in northern parts of the state.
We are excited to bring something new to the Sheridan School District! There will be a gymnastics tryout meeting on Thursday, February 27, for parents of all interested athletes currently in grades 6-11. The Sheridan vs. Benton senior high basketball games, originally scheduled for tonight, have been rescheduled for Monday, February 24. The games will be played at Benton, with the JV game tipping off first at 5 p.m. Go Jackets!
The Sheridan School District will be closed on Friday, February 21. While the majority of roads in our district are clear, there are still some key travel routes that remain heavily iced over, creating hazardous driving conditions. This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of all students and staff across our 625-square-mile district. Due to forecasts of inclement weather, the Sheridan Cheer Tryout Meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 25. It will be held in the SHS Cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. This meeting is for parents of all athletes interested in cheer who are currently in grades 6-11.
Congratulations to the Lady Jacket wrestlers on a great showing at Regionals on Saturday! Kylie Speights placed first in her division, Alina Squires finished third, Natalie Carlson placed fourth in her division, and Bri Pye finished 5th. Allison Hernandez took her first win of the season. Speights, Squires and Carlson will be advancing to State on February 28 at UALR.

SSD families: Due to forecasted inclement weather that is projected to arrive tomorrow, the Sheridan School District will have early dismissal at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Our concern is the ability for students, staff and buses to safely travel home if snow/ice begins to accumulate. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. The Sheridan School District is seeking bus drivers. The pay is $20-$28 per hour with benefits such as paid sick and personal leave, and retirement. Health insurance is also available. The district will provide training, pay for the cost of your CDL exam and background check, and offers free physicals. And once you're hired, the district will reimburse for hours spent training. It's a great part-time job! #YJNation
