Our SHS National Honor Society students hosted a special Valentine’s Day celebration for students who receive special education services, and it was an event full of joy, laughter, and connection!
From games and treats to thoughtful decorations and smiles all around, our NHS students demonstrated leadership, compassion, and service in action. They truly embodied what it means to serve others and build an inclusive school community.
We are so proud of these students for creating a celebration where everyone felt seen, valued, and loved. 💛

SHS JAG and Internship students had the incredible opportunity to participate in mock interviews with outstanding community partners from Peoples Bank, FirstTrust Home Loans, Connect Services, Mainline Health, and the Sheridan School District Office.
These professionals volunteered their time to help students practice interview skills, build confidence, and receive real-world feedback that will prepare them for future careers. From handshakes to answering tough questions, our students rose to the occasion and represented SHS with professionalism.
We are so thankful for our community partners who continue to invest in the success of our students and help shape tomorrow’s workforce. 🌟

SHS students and teachers had a great day at the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament!
The event was hosted at White Hall High School, where members of their basketball teams helped run the tournament. They cheered on our students and assisted on the court, making it a wonderful experience for everyone involved.

Congratulations to Yellowjacket senior Natalie Carlson, who placed fourth in her weight category at the Class 5A state wrestling finals! SHS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students demonstrated their professionalism by “dressing for success” in honor of FBLA Week. Students were also encouraged to share their “why” for joining FBLA.
President Corbin Hunter shared, “I joined FBLA and continue to renew my membership each year because it allows me to meet new and amazing people. I’m able to connect with individuals from many different backgrounds, and it helps me continue developing both my communication and technical skills.”

Fifteen SMS 8th-grade and SHS 9th-grade members loaded up for a fun-packed day at the Greenhand Conference hosted at Camp Couchdale and led by the Arkansas FFA State Officer Team. They learned about their future FFA opportunities, and we can’t wait to see what they do with this new knowledge!

Seven SHS students were selected to audition for the Arkansas All-State Choir, with auditions held Friday at Maumelle High School. Of those auditioning, Aden Bartlett was selected for the All-State Tenor-Bass Choir and will participate in the All-State Clinic on February 19–21 in Hot Springs.

Our SHS JAG students had an incredible opportunity to tour the Orthopedic & Spine Hospital at UAMS. They received a behind-the-scenes look at healthcare careers in action and explored the many pathways available in the medical field.
Thank you to Chris Oholendt and Dr. Larry O’Malley for providing such an engaging and informative experience. The partnerships we have established with the UAMS team will have a lasting impact on the lives of our students and our community.
The JAG program is led by Mrs. Abana Nevens, whose dedication ensures our students consistently have meaningful, real-world experiences aligned with their future goals. Her commitment to student success continues to open doors and expand possibilities for our students.

SHS Beta Students Shine at National Beta Convention
Lillian Baker received a special invitation to perform as a Premiere Performer at the National Beta Convention—an honor extended to only six dancers in the state.
Our SHS Beta students, sponsored by Mrs. Dusty Slavings, had an outstanding experience at the convention. While at the conference, our students represented SHS with enthusiasm and pride. Students were social, energetic, and truly SWARMed throughout the day—so much so that they even taught students from other schools what it means to SWARM.
They connected with colleges, explored the many opportunities Beta offers, and are already planning for next year’s convention. We are proud of how our students represented SHS!
