Congratulations to members of the SHS Treble & Chamber Choirs who performed at the State Capitol on Tuesday, December 9 as part of the Secretary of State's "Sounds of the Season" event. The 45 students sang holiday songs in the Capitol rotunda. The event was filmed by PBS and can be found on YouTube.

At SHS, students are challenged to SWARM, which stands for Successful, Work hard, Accountable, Respectful, and Mindful—the characteristics of a true Yellowjacket! Students earn Minga Points for demonstrating these expectations throughout the school day.

On Monday, December 8, the SHS PTO and the SHS Behavior Team recognized 250 students who earned the highest number of Minga Points this semester. Students enjoyed cookies and drinks provided by our PTO, and the Top 10 performers received certificates to commemorate their achievements.

SHS is grateful for the dedication of our Behavior Team, who devote significant time and energy to promoting positive behavior and celebrating student success. We also appreciate our PTO for providing snacks and prizes that make these rewards possible.

Most importantly, we are proud of our students who SWARM every day and model what it truly means to be a Yellowjacket.

🎶 College Connections at SHS 🎶

UALR Choirs recently visited Sheridan High School to speak with our SHS Choir students about future opportunities in music and higher education! It was an extra special day as three SHS alumni—Analise (McKenzie) Brewer, Class of 2022; Alli (Denis) Scott, Class of 2023; and Anna Moss, Class of 2025—all current UALR students, returned to share their experiences and discuss scholarships, music education majors, and performing with the UALR Choir.

The UALR Choirs are under the direction of Dr. Lorissa Mason, and our SHS Choirs are led by Mr. Jeremy Wayne, who is also a proud UALR alumnus himself!

We love seeing our alumni come back to inspire the next generation of musicians!

🌟 SHS JAG Shines in Washington, D.C.! 🇺🇸

Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) National Student Leadership Academy (NSLA) 2025 was an incredible experience for our SHS JAG student, Natalie McClellan! Miss McClellan serves SHS and the state of Arkansas as the President of the state chapter. Along with the SHS JAG Instructor, Mrs. Abana Nevens, she kicked off the trip by exploring our nation’s capital before diving into powerful leadership sessions and conference activities.

One of the highlights of the week included meeting with Congressman Bruce Westerman and Congressman Steve Womack, who spoke to students about leadership and the importance of making good decisions. The trip wrapped up with a memorable bus tour of Washington, D.C., where students learned about many of our nation’s historic monuments.

We are grateful to the Arkansas JAG Office and our school district for making this opportunity possible. The confidence, leadership skills, and inspiration gained from this experience will stay with our students for a lifetime.

The SHS Varsity Cheer Squad is set to compete at the State Competition at the Bank OZK Arena! The competition will take place on Friday, December 19, beginning at 5:00 PM.

We will be sending our ladies off in style—please join us in supporting our cheerleaders at the send-off on Friday, December 19, at 2:00 PM in the SHS Arena, and again at the competition at Bank OZK Arena.

Riggin Denis, a 16-year-old junior at Sheridan High School, is a dedicated saddle bronc rider and the current President of the Sheridan FFA. He competes in the Arkansas Rodeo Association (ARA), Central Regional Rodeo Association (CRRA), and Arkansas Cowboy Association (ACA).

Known for his grit in the arena and his heart outside of it, Riggin is quick to support younger riders and proudly represents his hometown and sponsors. Sheridan High School is proud to stand behind this rising cowboy—who is just getting started.

Riggin recently qualified for the Yeti Junior National Finals Rodeo (Jr NFR) through the Arkansas High School Rodeo Association (AHSRA) and is competing in Las Vegas. After two solid rides, he made the short go and earned well-deserved recognition.

Riggin rides today, Monday, December 8 at 1:30 PM (Central Time). The event is being live-streamed on the Cowboy Channel + App. Let’s make sure Riggin Denis can hear his Yellowjacket family cheering him on when they open that gate! Go Jackets! Go Riggin!

The SHS Quiz Bowl teams competed in the Fall Regional Tournament at Arkansas River Educational Service Cooperative in Pine Bluff. Sheridan A came in first place, going undefeated in all five of their games. Congratulations to these students for their hard work and big win!

Students in Coach Brooks’ Introduction to Education course showcased their creativity by designing interactive “circle time” bulletin boards for primary students!

These hands-on displays help support early learning through colors, numbers, shapes, weather, and more. Proud of our future educators for bringing big ideas to life! 💛💙

Thanks to the generosity of Kohler, 44 SHS students and their families will enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. Madi Smith and her team prepared numerous meal kits for local families, each complete with a frozen turkey, all the traditional sides, and dessert.

SHS PTO hosted a Spud-tacular Potato Bar for the SHS faculty and staff on Friday, November 14th. The event was sponsored by Jean Layne Boutique in Sheridan. Our teachers and staff were very appreciative of the luncheon. The kindness and generosity of our PTO and local businesses is truly a blessing.

Special recognition goes to Mrs. Lindsay Rich, FCCLA, and the Food Pro classes. These students helped prepre, serve, and clean up after the event. Teams make the work happen at SHS, and having students with servant hearts is a powerful reminder of what makes SHS special.
